In Transition: Treasure Island & Yerba Buena Island

Treasure Island and Yerba Buena Island are currently undergoing an innovative transformation and will soon emerge as San Francisco’s newest neighborhood. This redevelopment initiative features a vibrant art program, reimagining Treasure Island as a burgeoning hub for the arts. In the next 20 years, permanent and temporary art installations will be on display on the island. Amidst this period of dynamic change and transition, the San Francisco Arts Commission and the Treasure Island Development Authority engaged five photographers to capture the island’s evolution. These photographs are part of that effort.

Cool Places to Warm Up in San Francisco is a guide to San Francisco’s hidden (and not so hidden) gems where one can go to have an extraordinary experience while taking shelter from the fog. There is one destination for every hour of the day. Destinations follow a path from Buena Vista Park to Dolores Park. The book is available at San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, de Young museum, and numerous bookstores in the U.S. This project was done while Laura Haertling was a principal and creative director at Hot Studio.
